Tamaulipas Governor Eugenio Hernandez gave a speech on Wednesday at the new McAllen Convention Center. He talked about how during the 1980s, Spain’s economy lagged behind other neighboring Western European countries and much of the Spanish population attempted to illegally immigrate to the surrounding countries. Because of a regional economic effort, the surrounding countries helped build Spain’s economy, instead of isolating Spain from the rest of Europe, and the immigration problems subsided. Hernandez said the U.S. and Mexico should consider such a plan.
What do you think about the northeastern states of Mexico and bordering U.S. states coming together to create a regional economic effort to better both countries?
